GOD AS LOVER
What keeps us from fully embracing the idea that we have an all-powerful, creator God who will stop at nothing to capture our hearts?
Yes, it’s true we’ve bought into the lies of the enemy and signed up for agreements for things that are not true. Yet, something more is at play . . .
I think we have legitimate doubts that arise out of the heartache we have experienced ourselves and witnessed in the lives of those around us and on the news. Why do we experience so much loss, pain, and heartache if the all-loving Creator of the Universe is truly after us?

It’s true this world is the realm of the Prince of Darkness – Satan himself. And yet, if we’re honest, isn’t the real challenge that we try to do SO MUCH in our own strength? We get a nudge or direction from the Trinity, and then we grab hold of it, plan the crap out if it, and then choke it to death with our own strength. We find it so hard to just take the next step, then roll our hands over and ask,
Our world has conditioned us (and don’t think the enemy has not has his hands all over this!) that the better we study, plan, and execute the “better” the result will be (whatever that means). The problem starts with the fact that the “better result” is usually defined in earthly terms – and that is a MUCH smaller story than the one the Trinity is writing.
And moreover, the Trinity is willing (even glad) to let us experience pain if it drives us closer to Them.
What if the whole point – the entire purpose of this entire lifetime here on earth is to Love God? Period. Full Stop. End of Sentence.
Yes, what will flow from a heart fully connected to the Trinity is the desire to Love Others – and it ONLY begins when we love God with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength. And by the way, have you ever contemplated what it looks like, feels like, and sounds like to love the Trinity with every ounce of your whole being (heart, mind, soul, and strength)? Most of us are just trying to carve out 10-20 minutes every day to pray – then we can get on with controlling our lives through our own strength and decisions. We can’t even contemplate what it would look like to spend every moment, of every day loving God with every minute, every decision, every step. That kind of connection and intimacy is scary – the only time we’ve ever experienced anything close to it is when we were falling in love with our spouse (for those that have had one).

Oh, then wouldn’t it be good if the Trinity referred to its courtship of us in terms of a bridegroom courting his bride? Oh yeah, Jesus does exactly that! And don’t even get me started on Song of Solomon (or Song of Songs) in the Old Testament.
If we’re being totally honest, the amount of vulnerability it would take to live our lives – our full heart, mind, soul, and strength – fully connected to the Trinity scares us to death! What would my wife say? What would my friends say? Wouldn’t I seem weak and indecisive, as if I can’t make any decisions for myself?
And yet, this is what we’re invited up into: a love affair where we don’t even take the next step without our Lover – who wants and plans only the greatest things in the world for us. “More than we can ask or even imagine.”
